ICME 2017 Special Session on Advances in Object Visual Search


Traditional text-based search has limited capability in describing real-world objects. As mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets proliferate, searching via images or videos becomes much more attractive because of the rich visual information of images and videos. Especially in the current big data era, searching for the desired object from huge amount of multimedia data (cloud, Internet, etc.) is quite challenging. Rapid and rich object visual search is highly demanded for both academia and industry. In recent years, numerous object visual search techniques have been developed for object search. However, a lot of challenges remain.

To further advance the development of object visual search, this special session aims to bring researchers together to discuss new methodologies and techniques. This special session seeks original submissions concerning the latest technology developments for object visual search. These include machine learning/deep learning models for object search, compact descriptors for visual search, feature compression methods, mobile object search, object retrieval in intelligent video surveillance, etc. We also welcome submissions related to practical applications and object search based advanced image/video analytics.
